The supports the business operations of state agencies through a variety of services, including building management and maintenance, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, budget and financial management, space planning and leasing, construction management, motor vehicle fleet operations, and oversight of the state retirement systems.

About this position:

This position provides specialized and unique functions pertaining to Michigan Veterans’ Facility Authority (MVFA) as a program specialist for performing accounting and forecasting services within the Michigan Veteran Homes Accounting Service Center (MVH ASC). This position functions as a program specialist for the ASC and the component unit to the State of Michigan, not limited to, highly complex assignments, audits, and special reports. In addition, uses thorough business understanding to maintain or implement processes and controls. Duties of importance to the ASC have increased mostly related to commitments to create more and new reports, including an audited annual financial report for the MVFA, transparency, measure success, through collaboration with the Michigan Veteran Homes. This position is responsible for preparing and reviewing the annual financial report. Independently develops plans of action for changes in processes related to, but not limited to, enactment of new state and federal legislation, processes changes, and changes in Governmental Accounting Standards. Performs or lead efforts on new projects or changes related to, including but not limited to, governmental accounting standards, reports for the governing board, and changes in software.

Position Location/Remote Office:

This position is located in Lansing, MI. This position may work remotely or work hybrid (remote/office). Selected candidates who have been approved to work remotely or work hybrid must complete that work within Michigan. Candidates should confirm work location and schedule at the time of interview.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.

Experience

Four years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant, Auditor, or Assistant Auditor General including two years equivalent to an Accountant P11, Auditor P11, or Assistant Auditor General P11 or one year equivalent to an Accountant 12, Auditor 12, or Assistant Auditor General 12.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certificate (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.

OR

Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.

Paid Parental Leave

Provides eligible individuals up to 12 weeks of paid leave immediately following birth or adoption of a child.

Deferred Compensation

Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount deducted from their paychecks.

Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match up to 3%. Expected salary: $27.62 – 41.22 per hour
