Corporate – 2nd Floor – McAllen, TX

Summary

The Accounting Specialist I is responsible for maintaining and reconciling bank general ledger and Official Bank accounts.

Duties and Qualifications

The duties listed below may not include all responsibilities that the person in this role may be asked to perform. Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Prepares accounting entries journal entries and ensures accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of transactions processed
  • Works with other departments and outside vendors or companies to clear outstanding items or collect outstanding accounts receivable
  • Performs data entry of FR2900 and FR2644 to the Federal Reserve Bank
  • Contacts bank customers/vendors on stale Official Checks to try and re-issue checks prior to escheating funds to state
  • Performs daily, weekly, and/ or monthly Account Reconciliations
  • Scanning of reconciliations and journal entries into the electronic document system (Synergy)
  • Works with departments and management to clear reconciling items that are stale dated
  • Assists in preparing the Annual Financial Report footnotes
  • Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations, and all established bank policies and procedures
  • Maintains current knowledge of all rules, regulations and laws as they apply to BSA/OFAC/USA Patriot Act/CIP/AML

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A self-starting individual who possesses a High School Diploma or GED and 1-12+ months of related experience
  • Must possess good written and oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Basic knowledge of accounting, general ledger, and accrual vs. cash accounting is required
  • Good problem solving and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Visual and mental concentration are necessary for accurately performing tasks, working at a computer for long periods of time in a fast paced environment and handling frequent interruptions
  • Position requires extended periods of sitting in front of a computer
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred
  • Prior experience working with general ledger is preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is desired

ORGANIZATION

  • This position reports to the Controller
  • This position does not oversee other positions

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

All employees are required to attend scheduled mandatory trainings and complete online regulatory compliance training courses applicable to their specific job function. In all situations, employees must ensure that their actions fully comply with all federal banking laws and regulations, including internal bank policies and procedures. Failure to adhere to these requirements will be grounds for disciplinary action, including probation and possible termination.
