JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Law in University Park is seeking an Assistant Dean for Career Services to oversee the implementation of a comprehensive career development program for J.D. students including student counseling and coaching, job search resources, programming, networking opportunities, on-campus interview programs and job fairs, and professional readiness. In addition, the Assistant dean will implement strategies and tactics to instill confidence among the student body. The Assistant Dean for Career Services’ portfolio will include but is not limited to:

Implementing a strategic plan to increase and improve employment outcomes for all class years of J.D. students

Evaluating, hiring, managing, and training Career Services counselors and staff, and making recommendations for roles and responsibilities within the office

Collaborating with Communications staff to develop targeted and multi-platform communications plans for current students, alumni, and employers

Utilizing data collection and tracking systems and making data-informed decisions for employer outreach, alumni outreach, and other CSO initiatives

Overseeing the management of employer data

Effectively managing and overseeing the reporting of employment data to external constituencies

Keeping abreast of industry trends, patterns, and norms

Coordinating with students and internal and external partners to identify and match students with job opportunities and networking contacts

Establishing a judicial clerkship application and recommendation program

Collaborating with Development and Alumni Relations to connect students with Penn State Lawyers network

Contributing to 1L Professional Development course

Developing, overseeing, and implementing appropriate career related programming including panels and workshops

The Assistant Dean should have a deep understanding of the legal employment market across public, private, and non-profit sectors. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong management and leadership experience, excellent writing and presentation skills, creative problem solving, and superior relationship-building skills. The Assistant Dean will be an effective leader and role model for professionalism.

Education and Experience:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in legal recruitment, employee relations, professional development, law practice, law school career services, or a related field. Experience in law school administration or with a legal employer is essential. A J.D. is strongly preferred. A high level of technological acumen and knowledge of databases, data management, Excel, social media platforms, and CRM technology is desired.

Additional Information:

Light travel is expected, as is occasional evening/weekend work (e.g. alumni-relations events, admitted student days, some CSO programming).

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
