Description of Work

The University of Nebraska College of Law, located in Lincoln, Nebraska, is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Director of the Space, Cyber, and Telecommunications Law Program. This position will represent the College of Law at local, regional, and national events, is responsible for student recruitment (LLMs, JDs), student support services for all students engaged in the SCTL program, conference planning, and managing the day-to-day operation of the department including website updates and drafting news articles and event reports.

This position will also develop programming and research initiatives with faculty or students, with a particular focus on defense and national security. An ideal candidate will be interested in a combination of administrative work, strategic planning, and legal research, with some background in the substantive areas and interest in developing research relationships.

Approximately one-third of this position’s time is dedicated to conference event planning and coordination for the SCTL program logistics. Approximately one-third of this position’s time will be spent on student support, from recruitment, to managing the LLM admissions process, to helping students navigate the administrative processes of the University. Finally, this position will support grant and research projects within the program. This position will require some evenings/weekends and overnight travel. This position directly reports to Executive Director of Technology, Security, and Space Law Initiatives, Elsbeth Magilton, and supports the program’s faculty and Director, Jack Beard.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or comparable degree with proven experience in a field related to the work required to complete duties.

Preferred Qualifications

JD Law degree or comparable Masters degree, with emphasis in space, national security or cyber law.
