The Team:Â Â The Advertising, Marketing and Clearance Legal team advises on all of Mattel’s consumer facing assets, e.g., advertising assets, marketing promotions, social media accounts, and websites, as well as on the production and distribution of all original content and other entertainment assets distributed in any media (e.g., television, streaming, and digital), including, but not limited to, short-form videos, traditional long-form content, feature films, Â product and mobile app components, licensed partnerships activity and products to ensure compliance with regulations and industry standards. Â Expect a dynamic and fast-faced role where you get to make decisions that impact the foundation of this team. Â Â
The Opportunity:Â Mattel is seeking a motivated, passionate, collaborative and driven Associate Paralegal to review and advise on advertisement assets and marketing promotions across Mattel’s portfolio of brands, as well as, the production of children’s video content, television commercials and global initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience in the legal review of children’s content and/or advertising and marketing assets and will be able to build and foster trusting relationships with creative partners, handling all matters with diplomacy in an environment of changing technological and regulatory infrastructure, short turnaround times, and strict deadlines. Â

What Your Impact Will Be:Â
- Work closely with colleagues and/or supervising attorney to review and advise on the following as may be assigned, to ensure compliance with advertising and marketing laws, COPPA, and any other applicable laws and regulations domestically and internationally, any self-regulatory guidelines (e.g., CARU), as well as industry best practices and internal standards:
- Advertisement assets, marketing campaigns, and promotions (e.g., television commercials, digital ads, influencer initiatives, sweepstakes/contests/giveaways, branded websites, and in-store signage); and
- Entertainment content (e.g., short-form/digital content, episodic programming, feature-length films, mobile apps and games, and products and partnerships),Â
- Position involves daily direct contact with internal clients, colleagues, and supervising attorney.
- Help foster good relationships with all departments within the company.
What Weâre Looking For:Â
- BA/BS degree and preferably, a Paralegal certificate.
- Must have the ability to:
- Ability to follow specific, detailed instructions and standardized practices and procedure. Â
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the Legal Department;
- Receive frequent direction and supervision from attorneys and senior paralegals;
- Be eager to learn about laws, regulations, and the industry, and effectively apply to matters;
- Communicate effectively in person and in writing;
- Be proficient in time management and prioritization;
- Attend to detail, especially when communicating, analyzing, and applying legal and regulatory concepts; and
- Maintain a professional demeanor, in writing and in person.
- Minimum, 2 years as an administrative assistant or paralegal at a law firm or a large company.
- Preferably, 1-2 years’ experience in advertising and marketing clearance and/or production experience at an advertising agency applying internal policies, FTC regulations, CARU guidelines, FCC television guidelines, particularly in children’s programming/media and advertising.Â
- Preferrably, experience in the digital, social media, and children’s broadcast landscape.
- Candidate should possess the ability to perform in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and time-sensitive environment.Â
