Building Maintenance Mechanic II
(Contingent upon available funding):
14.60 – 19.80, Hourly ; contingent upon available funding
Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, or TBD by Supervisor
Faculty Appt Period:
Work will be in the Evening Operations department performing preventive maintenance on specialized HVAC, mechanical and electrical systems and planned preventive maintenance.
Respond to emergency calls that come in between the hours of 4:00 pm – 12:00 midnight daily, during University holidays and/or University closings. Overtime is an essential function of this position.
Employee in this position is required to work overtime when work requires. Employee in this position is required to work shift work when work can’t be accomplished during regular hours and when the Management staff deems necessary.
Must be able to perform snow and ice removal tasks and respond at any time of the day or night when scheduled by management regardless of the weather conditions. Some irregular and extra hours as needed for projects and emergencies. Emergencies frequently involve difficult working conditions. This may require work during non-business hours (evenings, weekends, & when OSU is closed)
Regular exposure to disagreeable conditions, extreme temperature changes, odors and loud noises.
This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally.
Must use appropriate personal protective equipment as required (hard hat, vest, gloves, safety glasses, etc.). These items are provided and are not for personal use.

Education & Experience
Four (4) years of prior successful work experience in the building trades or technical field with mechanical, HVAC, and/or electrical experience;
OR two (2) years post-secondary education in the building trades or technical field with two (2) years of prior successful maintenance experience in the building trades or technical field
Have before hire and maintain after hire, a valid driver’s license. A valid driver’s license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned.
Knowledge of state and federal mechanical and electrical codes, safety regulations, and a broad comprehension of construction and maintenance.
Capability to work in cramped quarters.
This job demands the physical ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally raise more than 50 pounds.
Ability to become proficient in the use of “AiM” Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software and the use of mobile technology.
Must work safely and promote a safe environment.
Vocational/Technical degree in Building Trades or Technical field
Two (2) years of post-secondary education in the building trades WITH
Three (3)years of prior successful work experience in mechanical HVAC and/or electrical experience in the building trades or technical field.
