Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Program management staff embedded within the contractor’s design-build team to act as a liaison for a given design unit.
  • Oversee site survey program by the Contractor.
  • Coordinate with VTA External Affairs Team (EAT) and facilitate coordination with Contractor. Coordinate with EAT on obtaining necessary permissions to perform surveys, install/maintain instrumentation, collect data, and decommission equipment.
  • Oversee building protection analysis and mitigation design packages by the Contractor.
  • Coordinate with VTA Real Estate on necessary right-of-way or easements needed to perform mitigation works.
  • Coordinate with EAT to engage City of San Jose or other stakeholders on right-of-way needed to perform mitigation works.
  • Integrate into Contractor’s Design Unit teams. Coordinate directly with Contractor’s Design Unit Managers.
  • Be fully aware of all design development progress. Focus on meeting requirements, interface issues, external affairs, right-of-way implications, environmental considerations, etc.
  • Design Unit Leads should serve as a resource to the Contractor’s Design Unit Manager for coordination between Contract Packages and with VTA organization.
  • Be fully aware of all design developments which would have cost and schedule implications.
  • Report to Tunnel and Track (CP2) management on issues within Design Units which need to be addressed at a program level.
  • Facilitate coordination between Design Units and other VTA organizations.
  • Coordinate responses to contractor RFIs.
  • Facilitate and coordinate external design submittal reviews.
  • Participate in VTA design submittal reviews.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • PE or GE.
  • Must be able to commute to project office in San Jose, California.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a structural survey program for multiple private properties.
  • Experience conducting building impact assessments for tunneling or deep excavation projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Public Sector Transportation industry.
