Job description: The Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics coordinates comprehensive school student activities program to include athletics and all other student activities; provides effective leadership that will ensure a positive learning environment and will stress the importance of academic achievement and provides assistance to the high school principal in the operation of the total district program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborates with internal and external personnel for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.

Assists with department operations; the maintenance of services and the implementation of new programs and/or processes for the purpose of providing services within established timeframes and in compliance with related requirements.

Assists with facilitating meetings and workshops for the purpose of identifying issues, developing recommendations, and supporting other staff.

Assists with the managing assigned programs and/or departmental responsibilities for the purpose of achieving organizational objectives, and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Assists with the preparation of a wide variety of materials for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, making presentations, and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions.

Presents information on a variety of topics related to administrative responsibilities for the purpose of providing general information, training others, implementing actions, etc.

Assists with observing Health and Physical Education classes and providing appropriate feedback.

Assists with the coordination of scheduling, supervision, and implementation of elementary, middle, and high school student extracurricular activities.

Researches a wide variety of topics (e.g. policies, eligibility requirements, current practices, etc.) for the purpose of developing new programs/services, ensuring program compliance with established requirements, securing general information and/or responding to requests.

Assists in responding to issues involving staff, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns, parental requests that may result in some negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.

Conducts professional development and attends relevant school district meetings as necessary.

Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Assists with updating the Health and Physical Education Scope & Sequence, Curriculum, Athletic Handbooks, etc.

Actively participates in local, state and national professional organizations related to Health and Physical Education.

Works closely with other coordinators, supervisors, and directors in planning and coordinating Health and Physical Education.

Other Duties:

Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position.

Qualifications:

The essential functions for the Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics include the physical and mental involvement requirements noted in this position description in addition to regular reliable attendance given the limited number of employees available to perform the essential functions of this position. It is also essential that the Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics be able to follow the directives of superiors in ensuring the harmonious operation of the department. The Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics must possess:

Extensive knowledge of athletic activities, rules, regulations, and procedures for league organization

Effective communication skills, supervisory expertise, sound administrative techniques, and an understanding of financial budgeting.

Excellent computer skills; have the ability to effectively track data and produce reports.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Health & Physical Education (current teaching certificate). Five (5) years plus of experience in elementary, middle, or high school health & physical education. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
