Johnson & Johnson Consumer, Inc. provides sales, marketing and logistical services to U.S. retail customers on behalf of the U.S. consumer companies. It represents one point of contact with our customers for selling teams, customer service, distribution, retail merchandising and professional detailing. It develops and markets baby care, wound care, over-the-counter medicines, and skin care products that address the needs of consumer and healthcare professionals and incorporates the latest innovations. The portfolio includes leading beauty and skin care brands such as NEUTROGENA® and AVEENO® as well as leading brands like JOHNSON’S® Baby and BAND-AID®, Listerine®, Benadryl®, Tylenol®, ZYRTEC®.
On November 12, 2021, Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Consumer Health business to create a new publicly traded company. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 24 months, and it will be subject to legal requirements including consultation with employee representative bodies, as required, and other customary conditions and approvals. It is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you will be an employee of an entity within the newly created Consumer Health company and your employment will be governed by that company’s employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes.
The incumbent is responsible for driving achievement of portfolio initiatives that will deliver the sales, share and consumption goals for the Skin Health West business while instituting strategic business plans that integrate, align and achieve customer goals. Leads the development of strategic plans that distinguish between classes of trade and incorporate understanding of marketplace dynamics. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the achievement of sales objectives by providing customer thought leadership to the Skin Health Portfolio, such as Integrated Business Planning and special projects. This role has also direct responsibility over the Makeup sales and fixturing team.
The incumbent serves as a liaison between sales and marketing as well as other cross functional partners by providing voice of customer. This person also needs to be effective in influencing marketing, brand and operations strategies all while being a source of retailer and competitive insights for their partners and customers. Person should be comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast past changing environment. Key responsibilities in addition to 4P excellence include, but are not limited to:
Business Planning
- Develops and implements industry-leading strategy with senior decision-makers at both the customer and company that enhance business results and operational effectiveness. Provides key input into, and deliver against, the development of the business objectives.
- Communicates & coordinates key strategies, insights, and initiatives between field and internal teams as well as gains alignment across a matrix environment to support goal achievement.
- Provides input and validation for S&OP forecasting, impacting customer supply and service levels.
- Synthesizes customer strategies with brand, operations and sales strategies to maximize results for both the customer and company.
- Leverages best practices, go-to-market strategies, and operational efficiencies. Develops tools and processes that can be syndicated across multiple classes of trade.
- Develops and manages promotional programs, such as special packs & in-store displays, to support customer sales, while monitoring performance to track and report results.
- Partners with internal team members to develop and execute the revenue growth management strategies in order to drive topline and bottom line growth.
Customer Team Engagement – Direct Management of Customer selling organization
- Leads National strategy development, communication and guidance for the makeup direct selling organization.
- Develops and communications VOC to cross functional and sales teams to ensure alignment and accountability on forecast attainment, budget, business planning, and trade objectives with immediacy via a Customer Service based model.
- Leads the joint business planning with Customers of multi-generational business development & new item reviews.
- Develops and presents customer, category and brand reviews to drive brand and category performance.
- Identifies and sets strategy for new business models and instore experience, including the development of innovation and selling aids to enable new selling models
- Ensures execution of plans through regular communication and interaction with the customer team and in-store visits.
- Responsible for the Makeup trade and fixturing budgets
Analytics
- Leads cross-functional team members in development, evaluation, & implementation of the 4Ps by evaluating trends, developing insights, & translates findings to drive business performance improvement both internally & externally.
- Influences business processes and requirements related to pricing, trade promotions, category management, & inventory management including cross-functional collaboration with marketing, supply chain, trade, and finance on forecasting at the portfolio level
- Develops and ensure the execution of all trade related expenses while evaluating other elements of all BME related activities to improve P&L performance, including tracking & influencing using LYNX and PRF to ensure trade funding is maximized within allocated investment.
- Creates & influences assortment & merchandising recommendations.
Customer Team Engagement
- Coordinates & conducts regular communication sessions between internal cross functional and sales teams to ensure alignment and accountability on forecast attainment, budget, business planning, and trade objectives with immediacy via a Customer Service based model.
- Co-leads key top to top customer meetings with sales teams when portfolio representation is required and/or part of a special project on a business.
- Ensures execution of plans through regular communication and interaction with the customer team and on-going engagement with internal partners.
People/Organizational Influence
- Fosters a winning, positive, action-oriented attitude across the Skin Health BU
- May be assigned 5 direct reports, Accountable for implementation of talent management processes and developmental coaching.
Qualifications
- 4 year degree required
- 5+ years prior experience in consumer package goods required
- Proven ability to drive achievement of portfolio initiatives
- Prior experience in direct customer sales required customer marketing a plus. Must have at least one prior manager-level role
- Makeup / beauty industry experience a plus
- Ability to influence decision-makers up and down two or more levels, with and without direct authority, to ensure a fully-aligned customer/company business plan
- Demonstrate effective communication, and negotiation skills. Strong presentation skills and ability to tailor skills and presentation style to a variety of key decision makers
- Ability to develop and oversee the execution of project plans and to implement, execute and draw conclusions from a variety of customer, shopper and category studies
- Ability and passion to coach and develop reporting staff members if needed
- Up to 25% domestic travel required
