The Domestic Transportation Manager position manages and coordinates all domestic transportation activities with a focus on the development, implementation and advancement of domestic transportation procedures, strategies, analysis and metrics. This position takes a strategic leadership approach with the Distribution Center leadership team, Merchandising, vendors and stores.

  • Leads priorities, goals and metrics for department and individual performance
  • Provides domestic scorecards illustrating key performance indicators related to truckload (OTR), less-than-truckload (LTL), white glove delivery and parcel service levels
  • Interprets, implements and follows-up on government regulations as necessary
  • Directs daily operations for all domestic inbound and outbound freight and carrier rate/cost management, utilizing web-based Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Assists in the development of improved transportation expertise and practices including negotiation of transportation contracts; familiar with all modes and regulations, providers, etc.
  • Leads domestic transportation requests for pricing and contracts for all modes (LTL, Parcel, TL, Rail, etc.) including contract negotiations, legal reviews, data analysis and reporting
  • Directs the weekly store truck schedule and partners with our stores, Visual Sales Department, Distribution Center Leadership and Merchandising ensuring on-time delivery
  • Identifies carrier opportunities and develops appropriate solutions; resolves carrier problems that could impact the timely delivery of shipments; proactively develops contingency plans and manages crisis situations when need arises
  • Stays up to date on industry trends for issues impacting carrier network and service levels
  • Manages the carrier strategy by developing and implementing transportation initiatives that will improve lead-times, service and overall costs
  • Responsible for motivating, training, recruitment, retention and career development of the Transportation Team
  • Assists in the development of expense plan, controls and measurements to monitor progress, including service-level agreements
  • Understands best practice metrics and the requirements for operational compliance / commitment and is a key leader in meeting the guidelines for effective service levels and risk management
  • Demonstrates support for the merchandising and stores organizations by fostering effective communication
  • Leads in the development of metrics, systems and best practices

  • College degree required, concentration in Supply Chain or Logistics preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in domestic transportation management
  • Transportation Management System experience a plus
  • Intermediate level proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet, web-based and job specific related software applications
  • Based in Dallas/Ft. Worth area on a hybrid schedule
  • Ability to travel 5% a year, based on the business needs
  • Strong computer skills: proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel and Access
  • Ability to pass background checks and investigations due to foreign, federal, state and local regulations; based on position responsibility and sensitivity, periodic check and reinvestigations may be performed
  • Experience managing others including career development, directing and evaluating work
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
