If you have 10 plus years of relevant experience and deep knowledge of start-up innovation and implementation to drive revenue and profit growth, we want to speak with you! We are currently seeking a Managing Director Startup Innovation to join our Innovation team in Richmond, VA but are open to remote work arrangements.
What you will be doing:

  • Working with internal and external partners in tight alignment with the CGO (aka S&BD) organization to identify new technology and business opportunities.
  • Taking needs (“Needs Briefs”) and sharing with an extensive network of innovation partners to identify technology leads, solutions, and business models.
  • Once solicited solutions are returned, this role will facilitate the process to evaluate the merits and drive decisions from the technical and business operations inclusive of funding or investment.
  • Maintaining a relationship with the partner and helping run the partnership as it grows or evolves. This individual will start with initial external partners and will grow the external network over time on a global basis.
  • Building and running a global ecosystem of innovators, technical experts, accelerators, VCs and academia that can provide solutions to problems in an efficient and expansive manner.
  • Working with project teams to create Needs Briefs, while identifying and aligning broader technology connections. Taking technical requirements, assuring alignment with the business objectives and translate to a broader audience to increase return.
  • Deriving and facilitating the internal process of evaluating potential opportunities. Screening good ideas from poor ideas and evaluating the probability of success and strategic fit with cross-functional business partners.
  • Training partners and decision makers across the Organization on Connect & Transform principles, best practices, and decision-making criteria. Leading a team of diverse talent to implement the roles for C&T.
  • Crafting and managing processes to recommend and communicate strategic funding and investment opportunities when appropriate to the vision.

We want you to have:

  • Bachelor of Science/Engineering/Marketing preferred.
  • 15+ years of confirmed experience working across multiple categories in the industry and working with external companies.
  • A demonstrated ability to communicate well in large forums.
  • Strong business acumen and broad understanding of our product categories is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to make technology connections across multiple industries and multiple internal programs is strongly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of start-up innovation and implementation to drive revenue and profit growth.
  • Proven technical project expertise in the development and process scale up of new products
  • Excellent track record of partnering with manufacturing sites for product development, scale up and commercialization.
  • Expertise in compliance or regulatory challenges and requirements directly related to product development and commercialization across complex and diverse business initiatives
  • Understanding of GMP and QbD requirements and experience implementing standards and processes that ensure compliance with the FDA tobacco regulations
  • Demonstrated capability to lead large groups of people in alignment with Our Leadership Advantage principles

  • Establishing job design and ensuring appropriate staffing to deliver the department’s strategic operating plan and objectives.
  • Communicating the department’s objectives and goals and cascading to others, ensuring the workload is distributed appropriately to achieve goals and objectives.
