The Nutrition Education and Training Consultant reports directly to the supervisor of the Communication and Training Team (CTT), in the Client Services Section (CSS). The position provides leadership for WIC’s nutrition education program planning and evaluation, coordinates nutrition messages and materials, develops and implements policy, and provides professional consultation and training. The consultant also oversees the electronic nutrition education contract and assures project goals and deliverables are met.
In this position, you’ll contribute to the organization’s mission by collaborating with partners and stakeholders to enhance the health of individuals, families, and communities. WIC works to promote a healthy start by supporting families with breastfeeding, healthy eating, physical activity, and access to nutritious foods. This position supports WIC health professionals and clinic staff to provide quality, culturally sensitive, and participant centered WIC nutrition services to Washington’s low-income families.
Washington State WIC contracts with 56 local agencies including local health departments, hospitals, community health centers, tribal programs, migrant health clinics, and non-profit agencies. The WIC workforce includes about 700 staff comprised of Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, Registered Nurses, Breastfeeding Consultants, Certifiers, Front Line Staff or Clerks, Peer Counselors, and other staff.
This is a full-time permanent Health Service Consultant 3 (HSC 3) within the Division of Prevention and Community Health (PCH).
The incumbent may be located anywhere within the State of Washington. Telework (mobile work) is currently expected. When approved, the incumbent will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance including telework and reporting to the Tumwater, WA duty station for work activities as needed.

Duties Include the following:
- Provide leadership for WIC nutrition education program planning and evaluation.
- Coordinate and develop guidance for local agency annual nutrition service plan; include core components of goals, action plan and evaluation.
- Develop and implement nutrition education policies and procedures to guide WIC health professionals and clinic staff to deliver participant centered nutrition services to families.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate training for WIC health care professionals and clinic staff.
- Serve as contract manager for Washington’s electronic nutrition education contractor and assure participants can access platform.
- Assess needs for nutrition education materials and assure culturally relevant education materials are available for participants and families.
- Coordinate evaluation of current nutrition education materials and update as needed. Create and update standard evaluation tool.
- Research and identify new nutrition education materials and nutrition education aids to purchase.
- Coordinate nutrition message development and nutrition education material testing.
- Provide professional consultation and technical assistance to WIC health care professionals and clinic staff on maternal and child nutrition, nutrition education, WIC nutrition services and WIC policy.

Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree or higher in nutrition science or dietetics.
- Registered as a Dietitian Nutritionist.
- One (1) or more years of experience working in a nutrition or health education program.
- Experience effectively using MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Desired Qualifications
- One (1) or more years of experience working in a local or state WIC program.
- One or more years of experience with nutrition or health education material development.
- One (1) or more years of experience developing and delivering training to adult learners.
- One (1) or more years interpreting state and federal regulations for a local or state program.
- Demonstrated experience giving presentations to large and small groups.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
