JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Seeking applicants with a passion for providing care to hospitalized patients and an interest in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
The Patient Care Attendant (PCA) is an entry level position, no previous healthcare experience is required. St. Tammany Health System will provide on-the-job training to ensure competency as a PCA and will assist qualified PCAs to enroll in a CNA program. The successful candidate will have an interest in advancing their career in healthcare and demonstrate a strong work ethic and dependability.

Summary of the Job:
The Patient Care Attendant assists the nursing staff in performing routine patient care for a group of patients for a designated period of time.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent required. Hospital and/or patient care experience not required. Should be interested in pursuing certification as a nursing assistant and have an interest in a career in healthcare.
Current BLS certification through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Additionally, the Patient Care Attendant must satisfactorily complete the Patient Care Attendant Competencies checklist within the first 30 days of employment.
Physical Demands:
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
Physical Effort required:
Constant (67%-100%) – seeing
Frequently (34%-66%) – lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, reaching, handling/feeling, talking and hearing
Occasionally (1%-33%) – climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.), stooping and crouching
