ABOUT THIS ROLE

We are looking for an enthusiastic writer with natural talent and an interest in politics who can bring out the passion in our candidates with messaging that speaks to people’s hearts and guts. The ideal candidate is a true collaborator who is ready to roll-up their sleeves and get to work writing compelling direct mail copy for multiple clients under tight deadlines.
Note: This is a temporary role that will run from approximately mid-July to October 31, 2022. While our in-office policy is currently flexible, we expect this role to have some requirements to be in our NYC office in 2022. Proof of full vaccination is required in our offices.
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
As a Political Copywriter on our CCS team, you will…
- Meet-usually by videoconference-with clients to hear their voice and story (these interviews will inform your writing)
- Participate in internal client team meetings to develop of concepts for direct mail and other paid media supporting our clients’ campaigns
- Draft copy for political direct mail
- Review designed layouts of mail and other collateral media to ensure that the copy you draft works with the accompanying art/design
- In addition to the general scope of responsibilities for this position, you will occasionally help on non-political projects, such as brandings for nonprofits, advocacy groups and other organizations
Essential skills:
- Excellent writing ability. Clear prose and clean grammar with enough expertise to know when to break the rules. Appreciation for the principles of Strunk & White (“Omit needless words.”)
- A sense of style and the talent to move audiences emotionally and politically with limited copy.
- Aptitude for writing short form copy (the majority of the work will be under 200 words, including headlines and paragraph body text)
- The flexibility to adapt creatively to the requirements of different media, clients and audiences
- Ability to understand clients’ messages and translate them into compelling headlines and copy as well as provide thoughts on accompanying imagery
- Power to think both creatively and strategically, independently and as part of a team
- Ability to meet deadlines and keep track of multiple assignments at once
- A passion for good work, openness to receiving feedback and using it to improve work, an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and a team player mindset
- Willingness to work long hours and weekends during peak periods
