The Senior Director, Strategy & Growth – Life Science plays a critical role in overseeing the sales, delivery, and execution of high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements. The Senior Director serves as the engagement executive with overall responsibility for quality of delivery, client relationship development, and overall project economics. This leader will bring particular experience in the life science marketplace with ability to successfully building new business through existing and new-to-the organization clients. The Senior Director is also an important member of the pillar’s leadership team, with responsibility to contribute to overall pillar development needs, growth strategy, contributing positively to team culture, and taking on direct reporting relationships.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Overall engagement executive across high-complexity, multi-workstream engagements and able to accurately diagnose the issues the client has identified (as well as underlying issues) and determine the appropriate solutions that will lead the client to create strategic direction
  • Build consensus among client stakeholders who play a critical role in the client’s ability to successfully implement the identified solutions
  • Industry expert in one or more areas and uses engagements to advance own knowledge
  • Principal point of relationship and escalation for client executives
  • Accountable for overall engagement execution including: quality of output, client satisfaction (Net Promoter Score), and profitability
  • Provides executive oversight of project economics and directs team to follow practices needed to ensure both quality and profitability
  • Provide subject matter expertise to other Optum Advisory Services and Optum Company business units as it relates to strategic planning
  • Provide support to other Optum Advisory Services and Optum Company business units when strategy expertise is required in addressing client issues
  • Communicate effectively and accurately in writing and verbally to prospects, clients, and other team members
  • Demonstrate strong relationship management skills and ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations
  • New business development efforts inclusive of: strategy sales to new clients, strategy sales to existing clients, sales of other Optum Advisory/Optum services and capabilities to new or existing clients
  • Lead development of intellectual capital and thought leadership collateral

Required Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree (MBA/MPH/MHA, etc.) with 10+ years consulting experience OR Bachelor’s Degree with 12+ years consulting experience
  • 7+ years of experience leading strategy work
  • 7+ years of healthcare industry experience with a focus on Life Science
  • Experience with business development – generating $3M+ annually in new sales
  • Experienced engagement leadership and client relationship management
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Ability to travel domestically, up to 50%

  • Graduate level degree in business or healthcare
  • 8+ years of professional experience in healthcare
  • Management consulting firm experience
  • Experience in healthcare consulting
  • Experience and highly proficient in managing projects that achieved budget and timeline goals
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members
  • Possess analytical reasoning and solution-focused problem solving
  • Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid leadership and strategic planning skills demonstrated within a matrix environment
  • Demonstrated familiarity with variety of problem-solving approaches and frameworks
  • Ability to drill down to the root cause of issues and be creative in problem solving
  • Established track record of leading multiple projects and initiatives

Colorado, Connecticut or Nevada Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $134,200 to $257,700. The salary range for Connecticut / Nevada residents is $134,200 to $257,700.
